Wilderness
Wilderness is any place that is confusing and "bewildering". This page, for example, might be a little difficult to read... so somewhat confusing? bewildering? Wilderness is one of a trio of spaces in human unconscious: we understand wilderness only in contrast to these other places. ===> A wilderness threshold passage takes life, concentrates it into a brief/eternal span of literal/allegorical time, composes a story with a real/symbolic meaning whose mortal/immortal protagonist undergoes an ordeal/epiphany in a bounded/limitless environment where ordinary/nonordinary realities exist simultaneously. ===> If there is wilderness that you go through, then there must also be a begining place;
as it happens, the beginning place is also the place you come out in on the other side of wilderness. ===> A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous
forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow
boons on his fellow man. ===> We shall not cease from wandering and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. ===> The third place is the place of
redemption, peace, plenty, salvation, beyond the beyond, the undiscovered country from whose bourne no traveller returns, heaven, nirvana. The place of redemption is sometimes visited by the person who travels in the wilderness ===> It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles and see the great Achilles whom we knew.
