Expert Witness Before the Ontario Municipal Board For the Carson Woods and District Association, Ottawa, Ontario. Appeared as Expert Witness on behalf of the Association before the Ontario Municipal Board (The OMB is the provincial administrative tribunal empowered to adjudicate matters of law that concern planning issues and conflicts). The matter concerns the right and responsibility of municipal governments to designate ecologically-sensitive areas on privately-owned land: no municipal authority anywhere in North America has been challenged until now on this matter. August 1994.

Partial Cutting to Meet Visual Quality Objectives (VQOs) For the B.C. Ministry of Forests. A research study (involving research, fieldwork, analysis, planning, public consultation) to investigate public preferences for the visual character of different systems of forest cutting. August 1993 - March 1994. Study published November 1997.

Sava Dam Visual and Ecological Impact Assessment and Worlds Fair Visual and Ecological Impact Assessment. Conducted visual and ecological assessment of impacts of major land development, identification of landscape planning procedures based on Digital Terrain Capture and Modelling. Managed professional participation in GIS applications. Hannover, Germany, and Ljubljana, Slovenia. June 1991.

Official Plan Environmental Planning Strategy, City of Ottawa. Wrote the mission statement of the Official Plan of the City of Ottawa (Ontario); wrote the strategic approaches and policies for the O.P.'s environmental management chapter. This required: research policy options for issues important to City Council; highlight professional and public environmental concerns; determine significance and future implications of environmental issues for the city; identify City responsibilities and possible initiatives; reorient draft approach to environmental management. 1990. An Ecological Assessment of the Open Lands to the East of Aviation Parkway in the City of Ottawa. For the Community Planning Branch of the City of Ottawa. The study described a 40ha parcel in east-central Ottawa in eleven natural and cultural factors; the study determined the site's significance in a city context. 1988.

Sawmill Creek Restoration Plan. For the Quarry Housing Cooperative, Gloucester, Ontario. 1988.

Planning for Ecological Reserves in Nova Scotia For the Nova Scotia Museum. Prepared a development manual and planning strategy for ecological reserves in Nova Scotia. The development manual consists of a method for selecting sites for, and planning, ecological reserves. Priority for protection and scientific evaluation of the ecological feature are addressed. The planning strategy addresses the social and political context of conservation planning and sets out public participation in the establishment of reserves. 1985-86. Stellarton Downtown Revitalization Program. Pictou County District Planning Commission, New Glasgow (Nova Scotia). May - September 1984. Prepared a revitalization plan for the Town of Stellarton, Nova Scotia (pop. 6,000). The plan included (1) multi-use town square and enclosed mall adjacent to the Town Hall; (2) public gardens -- forest grotto, stream and pond, and performance area; (3) tree-lined walk-way connecting gardens and downtown; (4) new parking lot and parking regulations.
